Life Knowledge Lesson- Reflection
On Wednesday, November 16th, I had the opportunity to go out to my cooperating center, Central Columbia High School, and teach a Life Knowledge lesson to my future students that I will be instructing during my student-teaching internship this spring. I got to teach the lesson twice, once to the period 3 Ag Science II class, which is sophomores, and then once to the Ag Science III class, which is juniors. It was nice to be able to teach the lesson twice and see how it changes from one group to another. As the younger group seemed to be quieter and less inclined to speak up, the opposite was true with the older group, as they had a better discussion in my second lesson.
I went a little off-script like the rebellious child that I always have been and developed my own lesson plan for this experience. I developed a lesson that was designed about the "equation for success" that I have personally developed during my time here at PSU. It seems silly, but by following these principles I have made the most out of some of the cool experiences that I have had. I highlighted how a good attitude, our best effort, and recognition for the things and opportunities that we have, can push us on the greatest path for us to find success. The students responded well to this idea, and they developed some cool and unique strategies for implementing these principles/variables into their daily lives.
The students were all great and seemed to be excited to see me there, they even had a countdown on the whiteboard in the other ag room as they prepared for me to show up. I even got to spend the rest of the day with Mr. Brown, my CT, and sit through a really cool environmental science lesson dealing with snakes!
